2ND TOUR ADDED -EXPERIENCE "CHAGALL: FANTASIES FOR THE. STAGE" AT LACMA WITH ART HISTORIAN CLARE KUNNY SEPT 11 AT 1:30 SOLD OUT

LACMA's special exhibition "Chagall: Fantasies for the Stage" focuses on the significant role that music and dance played in Chagall's art.  The performing arts, including dance, theater and music, was a major source of inspiration for Chagall.  Musicians populate his paintings.  He created set designs for the Ballet Russes.  He created murals and theatrical productions for the Moscow State Jewish Theater and designed costumes and sets for ballet and opera during the 1940's-1960's.

In particular, we will have an opportunity to view and discuss Chagall's vibrant costume and set designs for the ballets "The Firebird," "Aleko," and Daphnis & Chloe and Mozart's opera The Magic Flute."  Some of these remarkable pieces have never been seen in the United States since they appeared on stage.  The exhibition also includes a selection of Chagall's iconic paintings, works on paper and rare film footage -- all of which will give us a rare opportunity to study this 20th century master.

We hope you can join us in reveling in the beauty of Chagall's vision.
