Please join art historian Clare Kunny in a tour of the Getty's special exhibition devoted to the art of the great David Hockney, in celebration of his 80th birthday.
David Hockney is considered by many to be one of the most important British artists of the 20th century. On the auspicious occasion of his 80th birthday, the Getty Center -- home to some of his most iconic works -- will be presenting a two-part exhibition comprised of self-portraits made over the past 65 years and key photographs from the 1980's that investigate time and perspective. In the former exhibition, we will have an opportunity to revel in Hockney's versatility as an artist with an array of prints, paintings, photographs and even Ipad drawings that together provide a remarkable and fascinating look at how this artist has seen himself from young man to octagenarian. In the latter exhibition, we will turn our attentionto Hockney's fascination with the camera, studying his novel Poloroid composites and photo collages, including the famous "Pearblossom Hwy., 11-18th April 1986 #2".
It will be a morning filled with visual delights and challenging ideas and converstaion about one of the world's most beloved artists.
