How better to kick off summer than by immersing oneself in a greatest novel. As always, David has selected a work that begs for a close reading and hours of discussion. We hope you can join us for a reading of the "The Sympathizer," Viet Thanh Ngyuen's remarkable debut novel about the Vietnam War that compels us, as American readers, to assess the events of 40 years ago in an entirely new light.
The novel is an enthralling read and has been the subject of rapturous reviews by the literary world. The Pulitzer Prize winner in 2016 for distinguished fiction, "The Sympathizer" is the story of a conflicted communist sympathizer -- "a man of two minds," whose political beliefs clash with his individual loyalties. Part gripping spy novel, part astute exploration of extreme politics, part literary tour de force, this novel will provide us with three sessions full of discussion of what makes an enduring work of literary art.
We hope you can join us next month on this adventure. If you are like us, the novels that we have read with David and our gang of devoted readers, remain in our consciousness long after we have put them down.
